UNC-TV: Booming
May 1, 2018, 9:00 pm - 9:30 pm
UNC-TV is premiering “Booming,” a feature showing how seniors active in their communities prove that growing up comes with new challenges and opportunities.
The feature will premiere on North Carolina Channel.
About “Booming”: In North Carolina, aging-adults face disparate risks and livelihoods. Spanning four distinct regions across the state: from the Albemarle Sound, to the Appalachian Mountains, and to the cities in between, BOOMING follows four seniors striving to better themselves and their communities. Pantego: Serving Others Faced with an aging community in need of food, Annie Williams and her band of volunteers began and operate a mobile food pantry on North Carolina’s rural Albemarle Sound. Raleigh: Keeping Fit Popular with her fellow seniors, Linda Thomas is one of Wake County’s top fitness instructors, but for her, Zumba is not only about staying fit it’s a way to survive an increasingly isolated lifestyle. Charlotte: Getting Mobile Mike Grady has long been a man of service: to family, God, and country. So, he couldn’t sit idly by when neighboring seniors needed help getting around the sprawling Charlotte suburbs. Asheville: Cultivating Community An aging community in Asheville’s low-income senior housing uses guerrilla gardening tactics to create a community garden in a gentrifying downtown.
